PART 1
(BASED ON A TRUE STORY)
PART 1 ends in North Africa, July 3, 1942, El Alamein, when the Nazis had won the war, they just didn’t know it.
It had taken sixty years, but a top Israeli computer scientist, racing against time, finally discovered the identity of the illustrator of “the pearl of Israeli children’s literature,” And There Was Evening, a bestseller and timeless classic, now in its 42nd edition. The celebrated, but unknown, artist was Fred Hausman, who also happened to be the highest decorated WWII Palestinian soldier in the British Army, the only one to earn the Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM), the highest gallantry award for a non-British citizen in the British Army, making it the most important WWII medal to Israel.
The present and the past collide in The Lost Artist Love Passion War (Part 1) written by Fred Hausman’s son, Eric Hausman-Houston. The Israeli researcher’s quest to find her favorite illustrator serves as a present-day backdrop to tell Fred Hausman’s harrowing story of escaping Nazi Germany at age thirteen and traveling alone to Palestine. There, he befriended an untamable horse, King Abdullah of Jordan, along with many other Arabs and joins the Haganah to help save illegal Jewish immigrants. The Lost Artist chronicles Hausman’s time in the British Army up until the decisive moment of WWII’s North Africa Campaign; July 3, 1942, the El Alamein line, 65 miles west of Alexandria, Egypt, when the Nazis won the war but just didn’t know it.
Fred Hausman’s journey offers personal insight into the history of Palestine and Israel, the rise of the Nazi Party, Zionism, the Holocaust, WWII, and the seeds of our present day Middle East Crisis. The Lost Artist exposes neglected history and government coverups, including British atrocities in Palestine to both Arabs and Jews, why Winston Churchill had to perpetuate the Rommel myth, and how German resistance working at a Berlin radio station gave their lives to stop the Nazis from winning the war.
Fred Hausman’s Distinguished Conduct Medal was unlawfully sold to a British lord under false terms. At the end of the book, there is a bonus chapter with information on these seedy misdoings, followed by documentation of Eric Hausman-Houston’s correspondence with Scotland Yard, the British Ministry of Defense, DNW Auction House, and billionaire Lord Michael Ashcroft, who is currently in possession of the stolen medal.
All proceeds from The Lost Artist will go to reuniting Fred Hausman’s Distinguished Conduct Medal, and other medals stolen from within the British Ministry of Defense, with their rightful owners. The Hausman medals will then be donated to an orphanage in Israel so that they may sell the Hausman medals to a museum.
THE LOST ARTIST LOVE PASSION WAR PART 1 eBook ERIC HOUSTON
This is a well-told story of a hero who was forgotten. This story needs telling by this author in such a loving way. The early years in pre-WWll Palestine are expertly told in a sweeping narrative as Fritz “Fred” Hausman built his new life in a country yet born. LIfe was rural and very hard for all of the European refugees who escaped the coming tragedy in Europe. The story picks up gradually until we get to the very beginning of the fight for North Africa by the British Army. The contribution by the Palestinians who fought by the side of the British is well told here. This story needed telling and I am glad that this author got the opportunity to bring this story out for us to enjoy.
There is an abrupt halt in the story as we get to the end of the North African campaign. The next part of the story is the fight by his family to recover the many decorations he earned while serving in the British Army. The theft of his metals, the unauthorized sale via an auction of his medals at several times in the post-war period is seriously troubling.
There is another story here and, possibly, the potential for a very good movie. I can only hope that, in the future, the author can bring us part two in the story of Fritz “Fred” Hausman.

THE LOST ARTIST LOVE PASSION WAR PART 1 eBook ERIC HOUSTON Reviews
Captivating as fiction, outstanding as fact! I wish that I had the opportunity to have known this man. He was the kind of HERO that I have always looked up to. Very fine writing! The actual correspondence reproduced was very helpful and most disturbing. I know that that I must be naive, but, how could "legitimate" governments be so devious and false!
This is an extremely well written book that takes the reader on a journey with a young Jewish boy through the terrors of Nazi Germany to the struggles attendant to the development of a new homeland which he hopes is free of the oppression he endured as a young boy. and the award of being the highest decorated Palestinian soldier of World War II in the British Army. It is an inviting invitation for the creation of bringing the to life the passion, love and ironically the war that devolved to create his personhood.

I would give this wonderful book six stars if I could. First of all, it's a page-turner, and as a screenwriter, I saw the book as an enormous Stephen Spielberg epic. There was so much to love in this book by Eric Houston. First, based on a true story, you are taken into the world of a 13-year-old Jewish boy, his separation from family, his life on a kibbutz, his aloneness in the journey to become "the highest decorated WW II Palestinian soldier n the British Army." Powerful stuff. I am looking forward to the next book by Eric Houston, Part 2.
The author skillfully traces the journey his father took as a German Jewish immigrant to Palestine. His life was filled with unusual adventure. Beginning as a pre-teen and extending to manhood as a war hero during WW2.
I viewed the interview with Eric Houston on Netflix. I decided that I really needed to read the book because of his talk of the battles in WWI and WWII. It was a good refresher of my college History Course. It actually did more than refresh, it added to, by his third person presentation.
I recommend this work to any student of history, and anyone who enjoys a truly GOOD READ!!!
I have just begun the book, as two trusted friends told me that it's a must read. I am already hooked.
I will admit, I started by briefly jumping ahead to the back of the book where the author has the sections THE STOLEN MEDAL and CORRESPONDENCE. Here the author gives the actual correspondence he had with a variety of people regarding the medals — several of whom, I imagine, are going to come into play in the book.
I didn’t have to read too far before the phrase "no concrete evidence” was used too many times by a representative for Lord Ashcroft named Angela Entwistle. It made me want to scream. Can you imagine if this happened in the US? Can you imagine a US veteran having his/her medals stolen by a wealthy, powerful member of the Washington elite who can hide behind a lawyer with such meaningless language?
Angela clearly has the party line down well.
Not only is it incredible that this crime has been committed, it is unconscionable that it continues to be hidden.
I hope this book finally brings awareness to this issue so that something will be done. I will post my full review when I finish the book.
"The Lost Artist Love Passion War Part 1" by Eric Hausmen-Houston is a captivating book that will have you reading late into the night. This book that is over 500 pages just flies by. It tells the story of a young Fritz Hausmen, the author's father, who travels to the land of Palestine during WWII and lives in a kibbutz (a communal farming community). There he meets a horse that others have said is untrainable. A friendship is formed between Amon, the horse, and Fritz. Fritz risks his life to help other jews illegally enter Palestine. This is just the beginning of his journey in Palestine.
In present day, there is also the story of Einat, a woman with breast cancer, who wants to find the artist of a famous Israeli children's book, "And Then There Was Evening" but is having no luck finding the artist of its beautiful pictures. She wants desperately to find Haim Hausmen, the illustrator as she feels it gives her life meaning and there is nothing known about this artist who seems to be non existent.
This book will capture your attention from the first page. I was hooked and I can't wait for part two. I loved that this book is based on actual events that happened to the author's father and shows Einat's search as well. I will definitely be reading more from this author and can't wait for part two!!!
I would recommend this book to anyone interested in WWII, history, or the early formation of the State of Israel.
